This fall season we will be once again teaming up with the Lakota Jets team. Both teams have limited numbers going into the fall season due to the difficulties that COVID has brought in recruiting new players. After some discussions, it was decided that this was the best way to get a competitive team playing for the fall. And with school starting, we have opportunities to recruit, so if we can add enough players for 2 sides, even better. I am very excited to work with the Lakota coaches. We met late last week to discuss game plan and strategy for a successful season, focusing on basic execution and finding and exploiting space.
Our first official practice is going to be a combined practice at Walnut Hills Marx Stadium on Sunday, August 29th from noon to 2. This is going to be an intro to rugby and 7s skills camp. This camp is meant to bring out any interested players and to knock off the rust for any returning players. From there, the practice schedule is below. With field space being almost impossible to get, we will be practicing on Tuesdays together at Brimelow Fields in Fairfield (6440 Stockton Rd, Fairfield OH). I understand that this drive can be a pain and I can work out car pools as needed. We will discuss this more.
· Sundays (until September 26th)- Walnut Hills Marx Stadium. 12-2pm (Combined practice)
· Tuesdays – Brimelow Fields 5-6:30pm (Combined practice) Starting August 31st
· Thursdays – Walnut Hills Marx Stadium after school (separated practice, same skill work)
Games are scheduled to begin on Sunday September 26th. We will have games each Sunday for 5 weeks, there will be a break October 31st, and then the state tournament will be the weekend of November 6th and 7th (one day) in Columbus. Games are going to be held at St. Xavier, Brimelow Fields, and Dayton Rugby Grounds. We are still confirming the locations for each week. Games typically have started around 1pm and are over by 4, depending on the number of teams.
RugbyOhio has changed their registration once again. New registration will not be available until September 1st. I am not sure of the costs yet. In the meantime, if you are a Walnut student, please be sure to have filled out your Final Forms and had your physical submitted. You will not be able to play otherwise, and they will be checking this year.
